Wetherspoon given permission to stay open later in Midsomer Norton

The Palladium Electric Wetherspoon in Midsomer Norton has been given planning permission to stay open half an hour later each night following approval by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The new planning permission allows the pub to remain open until 12.30am from Sunday to Thursday and until 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. The extended hours will also apply on a number of specified holidays.

Wetherspoon applied for the change earlier this year, saying it was responding to “strong customer demand”. The company said the Palladium Electric, which opened in the former cinema in 2018, had become an established and successful addition to the town.

The company already holds a premises licence which permits longer opening hours than were allowed under the old planning restriction. The licence allows the sale of alcohol until 1am from Thursday to Saturday and until midnight from Sunday to Wednesday.

No new customers are permitted to enter after 12.30am.

There will be no change to the beer garden, which can be used for drinking between 9am and 10pm.

The opening hours currently advertised by Wetherspoon are 8am to midnight from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, and 8am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The new planning permission means Wetherspoon could, if it chooses, extend those current advertised closing times by half an hour each night.
