Peasedown Mini-Police Graduate at Special School Assembly

Peasedown St John Primary School’s Mini-Police Team have graduated at a special assembly with members of the local community coming along to congratulate them.

Established over 9 years ago, the Mini Police programme helps children build confidence, self-esteem, and life skills. It also helps them understand policing and community safety and builds trust between children and the police.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:

“The initiative is a school engagement programme that’s been running successfully alongside the police for many years. Children must apply and be interviewed for the role. They are each given a uniform and attend regular training sessions led by the PCSOs. Topics covered often include traffic and speed awareness with a visit from the local police speed enforcement team and first aid training.

As well as congratulating the children, I’d also like to thank our fantastic Police Community Support Officers, PSCO Louise Jones and PSCO Tony McKintosh, for supporting our pupils so much over the years. We’re grateful for all they’d done to encourage our school pupils.”

Last week, cadets presented a special assembly to friends, family and invited guests sharing their accomplishments from the programme of 2025-26.

Guests included the High Sheriff of Somerset Peter Dixon, Vice Lord-Lieutenant Robert Drewett and Police Superintendent Ronnie Lungi who each congratulated the cadets before presenting them each with a certificate and badge.

Other guests representing Peasedown’s local community included:

–        B&NES Councillor Gavin Heathcote

–        B&NES Councillor Karen Walker

–        Representatives from Peasedown St John Parish Council

–        Representatives from St John’s Ambulance and the American Museum who have generously supported the programme this year

“Peasedown St John Primary School’s Mini-Police Team is one of just many community engagement activities that takes place throughout the week at the school,” added Ruth, “we are keen to give children the opportunity to enhance their learning skills and try new things. It’s great for their educational experience and wellbeing.”
