Residents living along a well-used and busy road connecting Midsomer Norton with Radstock, Peasedown St John and Bath have welcomed the news that a new bus service is being introduced in their street.
Radstock Road, which sits on the A362, is one of the busiest commuter routes around the district with thousands of vehicles travelling along it each day.
A campaign was led earlier in the Spring by Midsomer Norton Community Connectors, a community engagement initiative, calling for a bus service to connect the hundreds of residents that live in the area.
Just last month, WECA, the West of England Combined Authority (the regional body that looks after most bus services, and funding for bus services in our area) announced that a new 101 bus service would indeed serve the Radstock Road.
Project Manager Nathan Hartley said: “We welcome the news that the new 101 bus service, operated by Abus, provided by Centurion Travel from their Welton depot, will indeed serve Radstock Road.
This is a partial campaign success, and I’m grateful to everyone who has signed the petition.”
Starting on 27th July, the new service will run from the Chew Valley via Farrington Gurney, Paulton, Welton, a loop of Midsomer Norton High Street then through Radstock Road to Radstock, and then head towards Westfield.
The maximum single fare is £2 with a one village hop fare of £1.50 (from Midsomer Norton to Radstock, for example).

“Thanks to Abus, Centurion Travel and WECA for bringing a bus service back to Radstock Road,” added Nathan, “we’ll be continuing to campaign for more bus routes over the next 12 months, in particular connecting the Radstock Road with the centre of Bath.”
