New family half‑term event at The Roman Baths celebrates Roman spring festival

Roman games, hidden flower hunts and even a goddess beside the Great Bath await families at The Roman Baths this May half term. From 23–31 May, the world‑famous site bursts into bloom with Mission Floralia, a brand new, hands‑on family experience inspired by the Roman festival of Floralia, which celebrated flowers, crops, and new life.

Children are invited to become festival helpers on a playful mission through the Baths and Museum, taking on creative challenges, mastering Roman games, crafting colourful creations and searching for hidden flowers along the way. Young helpers can even meet Goddess Flora herself – before being rewarded with sunflower seeds to plant at home, keeping the spring celebrations going long after their visit.

Two thousand years ago, The Roman Baths was a lively hub for ritual and celebration, and this May half term that spirit returns. Elements of Floralia are woven throughout the site, from floral decorations and playful activities to the unmistakable sense that spring has finally arrived. It’s a great way for families to enjoy a light‑hearted Roman celebration in the very place it once took place.

A visit to The Roman Baths is already a highlight for families exploring Bath. Stepping inside feels like stepping back 2,000 years, with flickering torches, steaming water and some of the most remarkable Roman remains in Britain. Immersive reconstructions bring ancient Aquae Sulis to life, costumed characters share stories with warmth, and free audio guides – including a popular children’s version narrated by celebrated author Michael Rosen – inspire all ages throughout a visit.

And there’s more to explore this spring. From 26 – 29 May, Archaeology Adventures invites budding diggers to unearth replica Roman artefacts in a purpose-built trench using real excavation techniques (£6 per child, in addition to entry).

With natural hot springs, costumed characters, immersive displays and world‑class archaeology, The Roman Baths offers a standout family experience at any time of year. This May half term, history doesn’t sit behind glass – it blossoms all around you.

Family tickets offer savings of up to 50% compared with individual prices, with free entry for under‑5s and reduced pricing for ages 6-18. Booking online saves a further £2 per person.
