Mayor backs Warm Homes Plan devolution

Speaking yesterday (28 September), Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Miatta Fahnbulleh pledged to devolve the government’s Warm Homes Plan, the biggest investment in home upgrades in British history.

Intended to transform ageing building stock into comfortable, sustainable homes and save people money on energy bills, devolution of the investment will see more control over the funding given to regions, putting power and billions of pounds in funding closerto local people.

Responding to the announcement, Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, said:

“Billions of pounds of more devolution is music to the ears of regional Mayors and our communities.

“More regional control over delivery of the Warm Homes Plan is brilliant news for local residents and businesses, creating more job opportunities thanks to the biggest upgrade of housing in history. These improvements will mean warmer homes in the winterand cooler homes in the summer, and help to cut bills, making a real difference that people will see and feel.

“Now that the West of England has been promoted into the top tier of regions, we are in the best possible position to secure the funding that our region needs and deserves.”
