One of Radstock’s most ambitious regeneration projects has reached a major milestone, with the successful completion of the first two phases of works to transform the former Trinity Methodist Church into a vibrant community hub.
Bath & North East Somerset Council announced the achievement this week, confirming that the initial programme of restoration and improvement works has now been completed. The project represents a significant investment in preserving one of the town’s most recognisable historic buildings while creating a modern facility for residents and visitors alike.
The first phase of the works has focused on securing the future of the Grade II listed building. Essential works have included fire safety improvements, new boilers, extensive roof and external repairs, upgraded insulation and the installation of rooftop solar panels. Together, the improvements have made the building watertight, more energy efficient and ready for the next stage of its redevelopment.
Once fully complete, Trinity Hub will bring together a wide range of community services under one roof. Plans include a new public library, arts and cultural venue, café, office accommodation, flexible meeting rooms, and spaces for exhibitions, performances and community events, creating a new focal point for Radstock town centre.
Radstock Town Council purchased the former Methodist church in 2024 following extensive feasibility work. The vision has been to safeguard the future of the historic building while giving it a sustainable new purpose at the heart of the community.
The project is the culmination of several years of planning and coordination by Radstock Town Council and Town Clerk George Clutten.
An important feature of the project has been its commitment to environmental sustainability. Alongside major roof repairs and improved insulation, the installation of solar panels is expected to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, helping secure the long-term future of the building while lowering its carbon footprint.
Following a competitive tender process, the contract was awarded to Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd, based in High Littleton. By using a local contractor, much of the public investment has benefited the local economy, supporting employment and businesses in the area.
The next phases of the redevelopment will involve the internal transformation of the building, including improved accessibility, new public entrances, upgraded facilities, and the relocation of Radstock Community Library and the Town Council offices.
