Children at Peasedown St John Primary School have taken a break from their usual timetable to partake in a special week dedicated to ‘CARE’.
Three times a year, the whole school dedicates an entire week to enhanced enrichment activities from sports to exploring the great outdoors, and from reading to school trips.
This summer’s whole school CARE week had a particular arts and sports focus.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“We want to give our pupils as many opportunities as possible to play outside, explore the arts and get stuck in with sports and recreational activities.
Creative outdoor play and sports allows children to develop self-confidence, independence and self-esteem. They also become aware of limits, boundaries and challenge in their play.”
The week saw pupils take part in a range of activities from:
– The Take One Picture project – an initiative coordinated by the National Gallery in London
– A whole school sports day
– Visits to a local farm
– Visiting a nearby river and learning about wildlife
“The art project led by the National Gallery was hugely enjoyed by the children,” added Ruth, “Inspired by the focus painting, called ‘A Regatta on the Grand Canal’, our children were allowed to let their imagination flow. We had projects ranging from a 3D Regatta complete with resplendent spectators and boats decked in bunting, to underwater scenes in boxes, paintings, chalk and collage.”
Peasedown St Primary School is well known locally for its extra-curricular and enrichment activities. The school strives for children to develop as well-rounded, reflective and responsible citizens.
