A new campaign led by Peasedown St John’s Independent B&NES Councillor, Cllr Karen Walker, has seen new signage placed around the community to remind residents that various footpaths have been designated as shared spaces.
The campaign, launched three years ago, has included consultation with local groups, charities, environmentalists and cycle enthusiasts.
Cllr Karen Walker (Independent, Peasedown) said:

“Thanks to all the residents who’ve lobbied me over the last three years to request that more appropriate signage was placed around the village to indicate which routes are officially ‘shared space’, ie, those which can be used by pedestrians and cyclists.
I’ve been working with B&NES Council to have these new shared space signs erected around Peasedown, which were installed just recently.
I’m grateful to all the residents who contacted me, and the staff at the council who worked with me on producing the plans.”
Shared spaces have been implemented in built up communities over the years to indicate where different users – such as pedestrians and cyclists – share the same physical area rather than being separated by traditional kerbs, traffic lights, and road markings.
Peasedown St John’s campaign has seen 11 shared space signs placed around the community in areas like Bloomfield Way, French Close, Orchard Way and Naishes Avenue.
Cllr Walker is keen to hear from any residents who’d like to suggest improvements or changes to Peasedown St John’s public realm. They can do so by emailing: Karen_Walker@bathnes.gov.uk
