Mayor welcomes new funding for nature

Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, has welcomed the government’s announcement today (Wednesday 30 September) of£79 million to support projects across the country that restore nature and adapt to the impacts of climate change. She said:

“The West of England is already taking action to restore nature, with £5 million pledged this year through our Nature Fund to help bring our green spaces and waterways back to life – following on from other local successessuch as the restorationof woodland in Pucklechurch as part of the new Western Forest. With investment, and working with partners, we can target efforts to boost biodiversity in areas that will make the biggest difference.

“This new government funding will help us to go further, providing greener, healthier, and more wildlife-friendly outdoor spaces for our communities, while strengthening our region against the growing impacts of climate change.”
