After more than a decade of being vacant, the former Welton Bibby & Baron site in Midsomer Norton could soon be home to a new Aldi Supermarket.
The budget supermarket chain is looking to develop the site in Welton. The former paper bag factory, once a major employer, has been derelict for years despite many in the town wanting something done with the site.
Aldi is believed to have submitted a pre-application to Bath and North East Somerset Council for the giant brownfield site but the council does not publish pre-application advice.
Project Manager for Midsomer Norton Community Connectors, Nathan Hartley, said:
“This is great news. Since the beginning of the year our team have been chatting to residents across the town, and one of the regular issues that comes up on the doorstep is the need for this site to be developed.
As well as providing all the essentials a supermarket does, an Aldi on this site would also provide lots of job and employment opportunities for local people.
We’ll be keeping residents updated on the news via our mailing list, please subscribe to receive all the latest news.”
