Peasedown church’s ‘Good Neighbour Network’ hopes to show love in action

A church in Peasedown St John has launched a new brand-new initiative to support those in need.

St John’s Anglican Church, which is part of the wider St J’s Group Benefice, aims to go the ‘extra mile’ with its ‘Good Neighbour Network’ – a volunteer led programme which aims to provide both practical and spiritual support to local people.

Associate Priest, Revd Andrew Avramenko, said:

“The Good Neighbour Network is all about the St J’s Group showing God’s love in action by helping people in our community. It’s simple. If someone needs prayer, practical help around the house, emotional support, or even a meal or a lift, we connect them with people in our church who can lend a hand. We’re here to make a real difference, one act of kindness at a time.”

Inspired by what other churches are doing across the UK, Peasedown St John’s new Good Neighbour Network aspires to put into practice the biblical teaching of showing care and support for others.

“We’re hoping that people will sign up for our weekly email/newsletter to see what help is being requested that they can assist with. We’ll then put the two in contact to not only make a practical difference,” added Andrew, “but to let people know that they are seen and cared for by others in the community.”

Data provided by the Church of England shows that more than 13,100 social action projects are run by Anglican churches nationwide.

In total, at least 80% of Anglican churches in England are involved in social action in some way. As well as running projects themselves, many churches are involved in hosting social action initiatives, partnering with others to run them, and providing volunteers and donations to support them. When these different kinds of involvement are considered, churches are involved in almost 33,000 projects.
