Radstock Food Club, a charity organisation run by Swan Advice Network providing low-cost food for those facing food insecurity, was shown generosity and kindness in the run up to Christmas. Through support from local businesses and the addition of extra funding, the Food Club was able to ensure none of its members would go hungry over the festive period.
Thanks to their major donors, Radstock & Westfield Big Local, the Food Club were able to secure an additional £500 to fund the creation of 35 Christmas Bags, which included special items such as a whole frozen chicken, mince pies, cheese and crackers, and more. In addition to this, the Food Club promoted a Christmas Food Drive to local businesses, where employees donated food items such as tinned soup, pasta, and cereal. The Food Club are especially grateful to the Radstock Town Council for hosting them each week, and to Sam Chiver’s Estate Agents, CFH Communications, Hope House Surgery, and Bridges Engineering for their efforts, which have made a huge difference to the amount of food they can provide in the New Year.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication of the Food Club’s volunteers, who went above and beyond to collect the extra items, driving across BANES to multiple supermarkets and collection points.
Radstock Food Club Coordinator, Sofia Perkins, said “This Christmas showed just how strong and caring the Norton Radstock community is; every item donated and every hour helped make a real difference to local people who needed it most. The Food Club would like to thank everyone who played a part in making this Christmas a little brighter for our members.”
The Radstock Food Club runs every Friday from 13:00 to 15:00 at the Radstock Library and Community Hub. For more information or to find out how to support them, visit swan-transport.com or email sofia@swan-transport.co.uk.
