People living in Peasedown St John have taken part in the village’s biggest ever residents’ survey.
Conducted over the Summer and organised by the community’s local B&NES Councillors Karen Walker and Gavin Heathcote (Independents), residents have been asked for their views on a wide range of issues.
Every home was hand-delivered a copy of the survey by a team of volunteers. And now, after several hundred responses, the results have been released.
Karen and Gavin said: “Local people’s views matter. As local councillors we’re always keen to engage with residents and receive their feedback on local services, how their council tax is being spent and what improvements they’d like to see in their village.
The responses to the survey will help shape what priorities we’re able to take forward, both here in Peasedown and at the Guildhall in Bath.”
A summary of the results shows:
- When asked “What three things are most important to you?”
50% of respondents said access to good quality, local, healthcare/GP Services was a ‘top priority’ for them.
This was closely followed by these three, which were all rated a ‘top’ priority by 1 in 3 of respondents (33%):
– Recycling and Waste
– Road repairs
– Public transport
- When asked, in reference to ‘getting around the community’ “What’s the No.1 thing about ‘getting around our village’ that you’d like to see improve?”
The top answer was ‘The condition of roads and pavements. More resurfacing/repair/investment’.
- When asked “What types of shops and services would you like to see locally?”
The top answers were ‘Fruit and veg shop’ and ‘Bakery’.
- When asked “If you had to choose one thing you’d like Karen and Gavin to work on, what would it be?”
The answers included ‘state of the roads’, ‘cleanliness’ and ‘better use of litter bins’.
“We’re grateful to everyone who completed the survey and shared with us the issues that matter most to them,” said Karen and Gavin, “It’s important that local people are able to take part in regular consultations and residents’ surveys like this one. Each survey return will help us to focus on what priorities matter most to residents over the next two years.”
