Children from Peasedown St John Primary School have put on a ‘show like no other’ at their annual Spring Concert.
Parents, grandparents, carers and representatives from the local community were invited into the school recently to be entertained by school pupils – who were given an opportunity to showcase their musical talents.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“Well done to all our musicians who took to the stage for our annual Spring Concert last week. We had ensemble performances from the school orchestra, the Year 6 Stings Group and the school choir.
Additionally, soloists and small ensembles performed on woodwind, brass, guitars, ukuleles and piano. We had performances from beginners through to those who have recently sat music exams, with everyone performing with confidence.

Thank you to all the parents who came to listen and of course to our fabulous music teacher, Mrs Taylor.”
The music curriculum is taken very seriously at Peasedown St John Primary School.
Every class has weekly music lessons with a specialist teacher in the school’s very well-resourced music room. Every child has the opportunity to learn an instrument and for many this goes beyond the traditional recorder or keyboard to brass instruments, drum kits, violins, guitars, piano, flutes, fifes or clarinets.
“Offered as free extra-curricular opportunities, we have a thriving orchestra and choir,” added Ruth, “these groups perform at whole school and community events. Our Year 6 children are offered the chance to join a weekly instrumental group, receiving weekly tuition and a chance to play in an ensemble.”

Throughout the year children in every age take part in musical performances including Harvest festivals, Christmas nativity plays, community carols and the hugely successful summer production. They also perform in a range of venues from the school halls to local churches, the Forum in Bath and the theatre at Writhlington or Hayesfield. Every other year children who attend choir take part in the Young Voices event, travelling to the arena in Birmingham to join a choir of thousands of children. Children from the school also take part in Peasedown St John’s Party in the Park festival each Summer.
