Children from Peasedown St John Primary School have taken part in a special trip – to the American Museum in Bath.
Pupils from Year 4 were given the opportunity for an afternoon out to explore one of the local area’s most popular tourist attractions.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“It was a fantastic chance for our Year 4 pupils to take part in an exciting trip to Bath! As part of their new topic on America, they visited the American Museum and participated in a workshop based on the geography of the USA, as well as some of the animals that live there.
They then handled interesting artefacts before exploring the museum and had a bit of fresh air in the gardens. I’m incredibly grateful to the team at the centre for making our school pupils and staff feel so welcome when they visited.”
Located on the outskirts of the city and with breath-taking views, the American Museum and Gardens was created and opened to the public in 1961 with the ambition to showcase American decorative arts and dispel stereotypes of American culture. Today the estate is composed of the fascinating museum collections, stunning gardens, exhibition gallery and gallery shop, stables and coach house and American Garden deli including a terrace with panoramic views.
The centre is an independent charity – so support from the local community is vital.
“Learning about the history of different cultures and counties is vital part of our curriculum here at Peasedown St John Primary School,” added Ruth, “so it’s fantastic to have a museum dedicated to the history of America right on our doorstep.”
