A new initiative has been launched at Peasedown St John Primary School to help save energy.
The school’s eco-team has been researching where the building’s electricity comes from and exploring different ways that the school can save energy. They are beginning to develop ideas to help everyone reduce energy use across the school site.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“Thank you to our Eco Team who led an assembly recently explaining to other children ways in which we can all make small changes which will have a big impact.
Their first action has been to create posters which will be placed next to light switches, reminding everyone to switch off and save.
Schools use huge amounts of energy for heating, lighting, and electrical equipment, with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning often being the largest consumers.
Thanks to our Eco Team many of our pupils are now feeling inspired to ‘make a difference’ at home. Look out for your children turning off the lights and closing the doors when you’re not in a room!”
Peasedown Primary School is paving the way in reusable energy use too with their ground-source heat pump and solar panels.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have our new heat pump and solar panels installed recently,” said Ruth, “as a community where hundreds of people meet every day, it’s important that our primary school leads the way in investments such as these.”
Schools are often one of the biggest consumers of energy across the UK, so local initiatives like this new one at Peasedown St John Primary School can make a big difference to not only the environment but the school’s energy bill too!
