One of our local community’s most valued historical assets has received a funding boost – thanks to local, Independent councillor Chris Warren.
Saltford Brass Mill is an historical gem situated on the banks of the River Avon in the village of Saltford. Dating back to the 1720’s, it’s a Grade II listed building and is also recognised as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, which means it’s a nationally important archaeological site given protection against unauthorised change.
Local Councilllor Chris Warren (Independent, Saltford) said:
“Saltford Brass Mill is an asset to our local community and is run by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Unfortunately though, with the building being located next to the river, the site can be prone to flooding – so I wanted to secure some funding from my Ward Councillor’s Empowerment Fund to address this.”
Every year, each Bath & North East Somerset Councillor is allocated £1,000 to spend in their ward to finance and fund local projects.
“It was great to meet Stavros from Saltford Brass Mill recently to find out how my £500 grant has been spent,” added Chris, “the funding has been used to go towards some equipment they can use to clean up after flooding.”
The Brass Mill has undergone a number of programmes of restoration, renovation and repair over the years and is open to visitors several times a month. For more details, readers can visit their website at www.brassmill.com
The Saltford Brass Mill Project was founded in 1997 and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2017. The organisation is always open to new volunteers getting involved. For more details, email enquiries@brassmill.com
