A community activist who has spent years campaigning to clean up his local area is to stand as an Independent candidate in the upcoming Widcombe & Lyncombe by-election.
Voters will go to polls on Thursday 9th October in what will be the third by-election in Bath & North East Somerset this year.
Casey Nolan has been a Widcombe resident for almost 25 years. He said:
“I’ve never been a member of a political party and believe passionately in putting my local community first.
Like many people, I have become increasingly disillusioned with party politics, both at a national and local level, and believe that now is the time to send a message of our dissatisfaction to the political establishment.
My background is in publishing and communications, including a period contributing to Bath Life magazine. As an Independent Councillor on B&NES, I’ll pose the challenging questions that have to be asked and will be the strong voice at the Guildhall that Widcombe & Lyncombe so desperately needs.”
Casey is the only candidate that is publicly registered as actually living in the ward of Widcombe & Lyncombe.
If elected to Bath & North East Somerset Council on 9th October, Casey will:
· Work with the council to clean up the community and remove every piece of graffiti in sight!
· Work with the Neighbourhood Police to address low level public disorder
· Campaign to improve natural and historic Widcombe
· Work with the Canal & River Trust, the Environment Agency and the council to bring the River Avon back to life
“I believe that a well-managed streetscape, improved signage and an enriched natural environment will serve to enhance the wellbeing of all, and would encourage more visitors to Widcombe”, added Casey, “If elected I intend to work with planners, designers, developers, GWR and Network Rail to address these issues.”
Equally, the River Avon is an underused, neglected thoroughfare through the heart of Bath and has proven a death trap on too many occasions. I am keen to see the river rejuvenated – with increased leisure and commercial traffic – and particularly look forward to the prospect of working with the Bath River Line team when Phase Two of this exciting project reaches the city centre.”
Backing Casey’s campaign is Cllr Karen Walker, the Leader of the Independents for B&NES Group on the council and a former two-times Chairwoman of the Local Authority. She said:
“Casey Nolan would make a fantastic local councillor for Widcombe & Lyncombe. He is passionate about his local community and has been a strong voice already to clean up his neighbourhood, crack down on graffiti, stamp out anti-social disorder and make more use of the River Avon.
As an Independent he would have the full support of our Independents for B&NES team, which is already providing a strong voice for non-party politics and making a difference at the Guildhall.”
Casey Nolan lives in the centre of Widcombe at the historic Toll House next to the river. Any resident who’d like to contact him can email votenolanx@gmail.com
