Children in Year 2 at Peasedown St John Primary School have had the chance to enhance their love of learning and knowledge of science thanks to a visit to the We The Curious centre in Bristol.
Formerly known as @Bristol, We The Curious is an educational charity and a leading UK science centre. They produce experiences that bring people together to play, get creative with science and explore different ideas.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“Year 2 had a fantastic day out recently at We the Curious! The children have been learning about materials in science this term, so this trip was very much linked to their learning.
Pupils took part in a workshop called ‘Build it!’ where they learnt about what is needed to build a suitable home. They were able to build a mini wall out of Lego then tested materials for how waterproof they are, before building a big house altogether.”
The centre’s charitable mission is “to connect and empower people through sharing creative experiences which celebrate unknowns in science.”
Every year they welcome thousands of visitors to their venue on Bristol harbourside, including schoolchildren, young people, community groups and other local charities and not-for-profits. They also work with local partners and schools to offer out and about activities, work experience programmes and bespoke opportunities for individuals who wouldn’t normally feel like science is for them.
“We’re grateful to all the staff at We The Curious for making us feel so welcome when we visited. When we weren’t taking part in workshops, we had a brilliant time exploring the rest of the museum.”
The trip was part of the school’s all-year round programme of extra-curricular activities which allows children to go on a range of trips throughout the UK – all of which are enhancing to their education.
