Somerset Council has launched a new bus, powered by electricity, in Frome.
It provides much needed transport for those wishing for convenient transport to Frome Town Centre
The (16 seater) number ’30’ service has a low floor and is fully accessible for those with mobility issues and people using wheelchairs.
By using electricity as the power source, the bus has no emissions, making it highly environmentally friendly and sustainable – without the use of ‘fossil fuels’. It is seen as the ‘latest generation’ in public transportation.
Councillor Richard Wilkins (Somerset Council’s Lead member for ‘Transport and Waste Services’ stated,
‘Our electric bus is helping us cut our carbon footprint while providing a smooth and comfortable ride for bus passengers.
I hope this will encourage more people to ‘bus it’ and swap a car journey for a bus trip.
Electric vehicles are proving popular in other areas where they have been introduced, and I am sure the new Somerset Council bus will be welcomed in Frome.
