Peasedown Primary School pupils visit Bordeaux, France

Children from Peasedown St John Primary School have taken part in a special visit to Bordeaux, France!

The five-day trip was an opportunity for pupils to find out more about French culture, cuisine, to visit local historical sites and to even spend a day at a local primary school in the region.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:

“We couldn’t be prouder! Our Peasedown St John Primary School pupils represented the school well during their trip and were even able to meet pupils their own age in the southwest of France.

Everyone had a fantastic time at Ecole Elementaire Lafon Feline, a primary school in the Bouscat region of Bordeaux.

On arrival, we split into groups to share a presentation with each French class. This was quite nerve wracking to begin with, but actually very enjoyable! The French children listened carefully and asked great questions whilst using their English to do so.

Four of our group were then allowed to join in with the maths lesson which was taught in English, revising their knowledge of circles! We were very impressed with the English skills of all the children we met.”

Children taking part in the trip were also able to spend time at a local beach and experience a guided tour of the city of Bordeaux.

Bordeaux, like a lot of France, is known for its vineyards and is a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its 18th century neoclassical architecture, the Garonne River, and the massive Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool. The city offers world-class cuisine, the futuristic Cité du Vin museum, and easy access to local landmarks like Saint-Émilion.

“Our trip to France,” added Ruth, “was an opportunity for our pupils to find out more about how children their own age live in other countries, to explore other styles of education and to visit a part of Europe they may not have the opportunity to do so otherwise. A huge thank you to all the staff who helped ensure this trip was a success.”
