Peasedown Councillors secure almost £270,000 for village in B&NES budget talks

Peasedown St John is to see a further £269,000 invested in it over the next 12 months – thanks to successful lobbying from the village’s councillors.

Independent Councillors Cllr Karen Walker and Cllr Gavin Heathcote submitted a series of requests to the council’s leadership before last Tuesday’s annual budget meeting.

Cllr Karen Walker and Cllr Gavin Heathcote (Independents, Peasedown St John) said:

“We’re extremely pleased that some of our requests for funding were agreed by the council.

The role of any local councillor is to always put their community first. On a regular basis, we meet with residents to discuss issues that matter to them.

These extra funds coming to Peasedown have all been requested by residents.”

In total, £269,000 has been allocated to Peasedown St John for:

–        £210,000 – Road resurfacing in Eckweek Road, Eckweek Lane, North Meadows and Eckweek Gardens

–        £59,000 – New and updated street lighting in Keel’s Hill, French Close, Frenchfield Road, Red Post Court, Wellow Lane, Wellow Mead and the footpath between Beacon Hall and Eckweek Gardens

Karen and Gavin added:

“The year ahead looks like it’s going to be another positive one for Peasedown.

As well as these investments for 11 different streets in the village, the Peasedown Community Trust will also be allocating funding again this year for several projects such as our Dementia Friendly Peasedown Conference, Peasedown Community Library and the village’s first ever Job Fair later in the year – all aimed at supporting grassroots projects that make a difference.

It’s fantastic to see the council and local charities working together in such a positive way.”

Karen and Gavin will be writing to residents in all 11 streets who will receive funding this year to inform them of what is being spent in their local neighbourhood.
