Children at Peasedown St John Primary School are celebrating this week after being the recipients of £2,000 worth of new musical instruments.
A fundraising drive by the school’s Parent and Staff Association has meant that the music department has been able to purchase a full class set of recorders, enough xylophones and metallophones for every child in a class to use, and selection of soft mallets to help keep volumes low – protecting little ears is very important!
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said:
“What a fantastic start to the new school year?! As well as this £2,000 donation to purchase more high-quality musical instruments, we’re also thrilled to be offering whole-class brass tuition this term. Year 5 and Year 6 will be learning to play the pocket trumpet!
We’re also proud to be working in partnership with the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band. Any child that enjoys playing the pocket trumpet may now have the opportunity to join the band and continue their musical journey outside of school!”
Peasedown St John Primary School employs a full-time music teacher who teaches music to every class in the school’s bespoke music room.
Instrumental lessons offered at Peasedown Primary are:
· Guitar
· Ukulele
· Flute

The school also offers two lunchtime choirs and an afternoon orchestra club, plus a music bursary to support children who are in receipt of free school meals.
